Lake Vyrnwy

Only 4 miles away this has to be the go to place during your stay. Not only is it a beautiful 13 mile round and 7 miles across lake and reservoir which supplies Liverpool, with features such as a damn and gothic revival straining tower, but it is now the heart of a 24,000 acre nature reserve teeming with wildlife. It attracts thousands of bird-watchers, walkers, anglers and cyclists every year. It has quaint tea rooms and coffee shops, gift shops and a RSPB shop and bird hide, cycle hire, statue park and a great play area for the children, there really is plenty to do for everyone.

Powys Castle

16 miles away is the Medieval Powis Castle, located just out side of Welshpool, a Welsh Castle built by a Welsh Prince. Most of the great Welsh castles were allowed to decay when the medieval wars ended, but Powis survives as a captivating example of a military stronghold which was preserved and renewed by continual occupation.  Its fabric contains architecture of many different periods, beginning with a medieval square keep and stone hall. The most fleeting glimpse of Powis' mellow red gritstone walls tells us that this stately country house is a place rich in history.

Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool
Light Railway

Only 22 mins away the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway was built in 1903 to link farming communities with the market town of Welshpool. After 1931 the railway only carried freight traffic and was finally closed in 1956; but in 1963 a group of enthusiasts rallied round and began to progressively re-open the line until it became the railway you see today.

Barmouth

Just over an hour away we have Barmouth which is just one of several fabulous beaches along the west coats of wales.

"Located on the west coast of Snowdonia, with a long sandy beach and a picturesque harbour bordered by the dramatically beautiful Mawddach estuary - Barmouth is the perfect destination for traditional seaside holidays, walking and outdoor activity breaks, or fresh air getaways at any time of year."
